Hey, hello there
everybody and welcome to another BluzNdaBlood Show! I appreciate you
listening
once again to the show! This is Show #112 and behind the mic once again is your Brutha Dave Harrison
beaming the blues to you
from the Star City of Virginia!
Well….. Get ready for another great
show! Show #112 is called “Blind Raccoon Blues” and is highlighting
the upcoming “Roots & Blues Showcase” taking in place in Memphis TN
coinciding with the International
Blues Challenge! Betsie from
Blind Raccoon
has put together a super lineup and I’ve decided to give
everyone a
little sneak preview of the great music that youll hear if you
attend! If you can’t attend, well I’ve
have hyperlinks on the BluzNdaBlood web site so you can go out and buy this great music!
The “Roots and
Blues Showcase” is Thursday February 3rd
and 4th and is happening at two great blues venues,
The Rum Boogie Café
and
King’s Palace!
Both are right on Beale Street! We’ll be hearing a tune from
every
single artist that’s on the lineup and you’re in for a real treat
for a great variety of blues….
We started off our show with the one
of those artists. That was
David Gerald
with his tune called “Postman”
off of his Hell and Back CD! We’ll
hear another tune from David again! That was just to get ya started!

So who else is gonna be providing us
some great
Blind Raccoon
Blues & Roots music on
today’s show? Well I’ve 11 more great tunes for ya! We’ll hear from
Grand Marquis,
David Gerald,
the
Delta Flyers,
Kirsten Thien,
Paul Thorn,
Tas Cru,
Levee Town,
John-Alex Mason,
the
Jason King Band,
Joe Pitts,
and wrapping up the show with
Phil Gates!
So…. Are you ready
from some “Blind Raccoon Blues”? Well, I hope so! Crank it up my
friends, we’re off and running!
Our first set started off with a
band called
Grand Marquis.
They’ve got that great jumpin’ blues
and swinging jazz sound! That was “Good Rockin’ Tonight” from their
brand new CD called
Hold On To Me. They also are the 2010 Topeka Blues Society winner
of their IBC challenge
winner! They’ll start the
Blind Raccoon
Roots & Blues Showcase at
The Rum Boogie
on Thursday
February 3rd and will be playing from 11:45 am until
12:30 pm. Following Grand Marquis, you heard
David Gerald
again with his cover of “I’ll Play The Blues For You” once again
from his Hell and Back
CD. David will start cranking his tunes out from 12:45 pm until 1:30
pm. At 1:45 pm,
The Delta Flyers
will be jamming their butts with their original acoustic Delta blues
music! We were just treated to
their tune “Baby Jane” off of their Soulbilly Records CD, Sixteen
Bars. Alright, let’s start off our
second set with
Kirsten Thien
singing “Wild Women Don’t Have The Blues”…

That two song second set hopefully is
giving you a great idea of how good the Blind Raccoon Roots
& Blues Showcase is gonna be! The attractive New Yorker
Kirsten Thien opened
that set with the Ida Cox tune “Wild Women Don’t Have The
Blues” from her Screen Door Record CD Delicious! She’ll be
at Rum Boogie on Thursday from 2:45 pm until 3:30 pm. The
very humorous Paul Thorn
will be playing and story telling as the last show on
Thursday at Rum Boogie. He plays from 3:45 pm until 4:30 pm.
The song I played “Turnip Greens” is one that I played a few
years ago when I promoted him being at a local festival that
was near. I liked the tune and thought it gave a little
insight into Paul. But make sure to listen to his Pimps and
Preachers CD that’s the Perpetual Obscurity Record label….
And that wraps up a very busy and full Thursday of Blind
Raccoon Roots & Blues! Let’s listen to the artist that’ll
start things off on Friday, Tas Cru!

Our third full set is also a great one! The third set
started with the song “Eau De Nother Man”, a very creative
story and song by the “master of the triple entendre” from
up-state New York, Tas Cru, from the Crustee Tees Label CD,
Jus’ Desserts. He starts off Friday at Rum Boogie from 12:45
pm until 1:30 pm. From 1:45 pm until 2:30 pm
Levee Town will be
rocking the house! We heard a sample of their Kansas City
house rockin’ Americana blues called “KC Killa” off their
self titled CD, Levee Town. Wrapping up the Friday
performances at the Rum Boogie is gonna be
John-Alex Mason
playing from 2:45 until 3:30 pm. You heard his tune “My Old
Lonesome Home” that can be found on his Naked Jailbird Music
CD called Jook Joint Thunderclap. Our final set will provide
samples from three other artists that will be playing Friday
afternoon, but not at the Rum Boogie! These great artists
will be playing at the same time Friday but at King’s Palace
on Beale! So hopefully, if you’re going you can compare
these folks and decide which direction to go! Let’s start
off with The Jason King Band!

The last set of this
Blind Raccoon’s Blues show started
off with the
Jason King Band
playing “My Little Baby” which can be found on the Hip Rox
Music CD called Blue Skies & Black Shoes. They will be
starting up the Friday show at
King’s Palace. Following them, we
heard “Crosseyed Cat” from
Joe Pitts. It’s just
one great tune off his Kijam Records Cd called Ten Shades of
Blue. He made a special note of making sure all of his music
was recorded analog. No computer manipulation was done to
the music. And I quote, “Like all of our stuff, this album
is better than perfect… because it’s real.” And wrapping up
the show is
Phil Gates playing a
great instrumental called “Road Shufflin’” off of his
Addicted To The Blues CD. He plays from 2:45 until 3:30 pm
on Friday!
Just to let you
know there will be two Masters of Ceremonies for this event,
James “The Blues Hound” Nagel from KPFT in Houston and my
friend Brett Fleming from WEVL in Memphis. Thanks, guys! |
