Hello there everybody and welcome to another BluzNdaBlood Show! It’s great to be behind the microphone again! This is Show #113 and this is your Brutha Dave blasting the blues to you once again from the Star City of Virginia!

As most of you know, I was in Memphis recently and attended the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge! What an honor it was to also get to judge in both the Band and Solo/Duo categories! So needless to say, I got to hear a lot of INCREDIBLE music while there and see some great friends! Today’s show is highlighting some of the great music that I heard while I was there and/or related to the trip in some way!

Well, we started off the show with Mikey Junior and the Stone Cold Blues Band with a tune called, “Mikey’s at the Bar” off their brand new CD called It Ain’t Hard To Tell. It’s a shame that Mikey Junior  isn’t blowing harp or singing on this tune, but it’s a good example of how this band rocks the house while he takes a break!

So who else is on my list of “Music From Memphis?” Well how about the winners of this years
IBC in the Band category, The Lionel Young Band! Phil Gates, Lil’ Red and Big Bad, Shakura S’Aida, David Gerald, a sample from the brand new Sean Carney’s Blues For A Cure – Studio Jam Volume 3, Chrissie O’Dell and One Hot Mess, Tee Dee Young, Kirsten Thien, Sweet Felicia & the Honeytones, Lisa Mann, and wrapping it up with one last tune from The Lionel Young Band!

So…. Are you ready from some “Music From Memphis”?
Well, I hope so! Crank it up my friends, we’re off and running!

Alright, let’s start off our first 3 song set with the first song that The Lionel Young Band started off  with in the IBC Finals competition, “Knock These Blues Around”, followed up by Phil Gates, “Addicted”, and finishing up the set is Lil’ Red and Big Bad with “5.10.15 Hours”.

Our second full set starts off with a song from a beautiful, classy, woman who didn’t compete this year (though she joined the jam session with Zac and Phil, but judged with me at The King’s Palace on Thursday for the Solo/Duo category! Here’s a song from Shakura called “Mr. Right”. Following Shakura is David Gerald with a live recording of “She Caught The Katy”, and ending our set is a great sample of the SUPER music on the brand new Blues For A Cure Studio Jams Volume 3! The song is “Two Headed Woman” and the CD was released during the IBC with the proceeds going to the Blues Foundation! What a super cause!

Our third full set is also a great one! The third set started with the song “I Found Me A Man”, from Chrissie O’Dell and One Hot Mess! We’re followed up by Tee Dee Young belting out “I’ve Got To Move”. Tee Dee Young and his band won the King of Beale Street Competition and I took a video of his final performance and it’s on my YouTube site and is worth watching!

The last song in this set is by Kirsten Thien singing her funky “Get Outta The Funk, Get Into The Groove” and she does! It was a real treat to see her at the Rum Boogie and I was really pleased to see Billy Gibson join her on stage with his harp and join her singing “Wild Women Don’t Have The Blues”!

The last set of the show is a great one! We start off with a tune from a group that came to the IBC all the way from Australia! And I was whining because of my 10 hour drive! Go figure! At any rate, here’s Sweet Felicia & the Honeytones playing “I Don’t Believe”, followed by the very talented and gifted “Lisa Mann and Her Very Good Band” playing “Bentonville Blues” a cute song about working at Wally World! We’ll wrap up today's show with the final number played by our IBC winners! It’s not a traditional bus number, but their accappello version of it really showcased the entire band’s incredible vocal talents! It’s their cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home”.
