Hello there everybody! It's time for another BluzNdaBlood Show! This is Show #115 and this is your Brutha Dave bringing you the best of the blues to you once again from the Star City of Virginia!

As most of you know, the voting for this year's Blues Foundation Blues Music Awards (BMAs) is going on right now and is scheduled to close on March 1st! This show is going to highlight all the BMA nominees that happen to appear on the Alligator Records label! Sometimes it's hard to judge the nominees if you don't have the CD and this show is just to provide a VERY small sample of these nominees! We'll do  Alligator Records this show, and other labels on other shows!

Congratulations to the Alligator Records label! Eight Alligator recording artists picked up a total of 18 nominations, far more than any other label!

Well, we started off the show with "Better Not Touch" from Shemekia Copeland! That's off off her CD called The Soul Truth! She's nominated for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year!

So who else are we gonna hear from on my “BMA Ballot Blues” show? Well how about nominees Keith Crossan from The Tommy Castro Band (Nominee for Best Instrumentalist - Horn), Guitar Shorty (Nominee for Song Of The Year), Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King (Nominees for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year), Rick Estrin & The Nightcats (Nominee for Band of the Year), The Holmes Brothers (Nominated for Soul Blues Album of the Year, and Band of the Year), James Cotton (Nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year for Harmonica, Traditional Blues Album of the Year, and Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year), Janiva Magness (Nominated for Album of the Year, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, and Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year), and finally Charlie Musselwhite (Nominated for Album of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year for Harmonica, Song of the Year, Traditional Blues Album of the Year, and Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year!

So…. Are you ready from some “BMA Ballot Blues”?
Well, I hope so! Crank it up my friends, we’re off and running!

That was "Definition of Insanity" from The Tommy Castro Band Music CD! It's just a small sample of Keith Crossan's great sax support! He's up for the Instrumentalist of the Year in the Horn category!

Next up is David Kearney, also known as Guitar Shorty who's nominated for Best Song of the Year, playing his tune "Please Mr. President" from his Alligator CD Deep in Bare Knuckle!

Next up, let's two samples of Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King from their CD, Have Blues Will Travel! We'll hear "Got You Out of My Blood" and "Payday in America". They are nominated for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year!

Our next Alligator nominee is Rick Estrin & the Nightcats! Let's hear two tunes from them! Here's "Back From The Dead" and "U B U" from their CD Twisted! Rick and the Nightcats are nominated for Band of the Year!

The next Alligator nominees are The Holmes Brothers, who are nominated for Soul Blues Album of the Year, and Band of the Year. Let's listen to their tunes "Edge of the Ledge" and "Feed My Soul" from their CD called Feed My Soul!

The one and only James Cotton has been nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year for Harmonica, Traditional Blues Album of the Year, and Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year! Let's listen in to two great tunes, "Find Yourself Another Fool" and "How Blues Can You Get"!

Also nominated for multiple awards again this year is the "Blues Goddess of the BluzNdaBlood Show" Janiva Magness! She's up for Album of the Year, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, and Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year! Let's listen to the title track of her The Devil Is An Angel CD and then a song called "Your Love Made A U-Turn"...

Wrapping up our "BMA Ballot Blues, Alligator" show is the legendary Charlie Musselwhite. He's up for a number of awards! How about Album of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year for Harmonica, Song of the Year, Traditional Blue Album of the Year, and Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year! Now that's a lot of nominations! Let's treat ourselves to hearing that Song of the Year nominated "Sad and Beautiful World" and ending up with "Dig The Pain".
