Well, hello there! Welcome back, everybody

This is your blues DJ Dave Harrison coming at ya once again from the blues filled studio in the Star City of Virginia! Welcome back to another BluzNdaBlood Show!

It's that time of year when I highlight all of the great performers coming to The SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival this year to be held on October 1st at Elmwood Park in beautiful Roanoke, VA! You know it doesn't take long to figure out why this festival has been awarded "Best Festival" in 2008 and 2011 by City Magazine! The good folks at EventZone know how to put on a first class festival!

Well, we started off the show with a great tune from the festival's headliner, three time Grammy winner Delbert McClinton, singing "Little Fine Healthy Thing" off of his CD, Delbert McClinton LIVE!

So who else will be cranking out the music on today's show and gettin' your booty shakin' at the festival? Well, we're hear sets from Skinny Velvet, The Fat Daddy Band, Bernard Allison, and more great songs from Delbert McClinton!

So…. Are you ready to hear a preview  of the music coming to the Big Lick Blues Festival? Well, I hope so! Crank it up my friends, we’re off and running!

Well, we started off the first set with the winners of the Blue Ridge Blues Society's blues competition this year in the band category, Skinny Velvet! They'll be playing at the festival from 2:15 pm until 3:15 pm! We'll hear three tunes from them, "Fuss and Fight", "The Look", and "Champagne and Reefer"... The members of Skinny Velvet are: Mike Huffman - Hammond B-3 Organ, Piano, Keyboards and Vocals; Phillip Barry - Drums and Vocals; Jim Bolt - Bass Guitar and Vocals; and Hank Shell - Lead Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Lap Steel Guitar and Vocals.

Next on stage from 3:30 until 5:00 pm is Roanoke's own, The Fat Daddy Band! Let's listen in to three tunes from their "Live and Lovin' It!" CD... Here's "Bye Bye Baby", "It's A Low Down Dirty Shame", and "Hard Drinkin' Man". The Fat Daddy Band lineup is made up of: Kerry Hurley - Vocals; Hoppie Vaughan - Guitar & Vocals; Greg Desaulniers - Bass & Vocals; and Tom Hearn - Drums.

We're in for a real treat now! Here's an uninterrupted third set of three great tunes from bluesman Bernard Allison! Bernard is the son of legendary bluesman Luther Allison so you know for a fact he's got blues in his blood! He'll be on stage from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm! Here's "Groove With Me", "I Wouldn't Treat A Dog (The Way You Treat Me)", and "Slide Master".

Our last set of music is a great way to wrap our show that highlights this great festival! We'll be treated to another uninterrupted set of music from the Big Lick headline, Delbert McClinton! Delbert & Dick 50 will be on stage 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm.... Let's listen in to "Do It", "Cherry Street", and wrapping up the show with his classic hit, "Giving It Up For Your Love".

Don't forget there's an after festival party at Martin's Downtown Bar & Grill starting at 9:30 pm!

Well, I hope you've enjoyed show #128, "Big Lick Blues!"... Don't forget to stop by the BluzNdaBlood tent at the festival! I've got lots of merchandise that we'll have drawings for! Lots of CDs, hats, t-shirts, cups, mugs, etc! Stop by and say, "Hey!"
